Halifax is a Canadian streamer known for playing Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds and Arma. His stream has a very friendly vibe and his community is very welcoming and knowledgeable about the games he plays.
I started to stream at the beginning of 2013. At first, my streams were infrequent, a way for me to show my friends a game I started playing and also record fun highlights to share. After going through hardship in life I decided to put my energy into developing a positive community on Twitch. A place where people could come enjoy each other’s company and get away from issues they may be dealing with. ARMA 3 Battle Royale was a game I was good at and was winning a high amount of rounds. Though ARMA 3 our community grew exponentially. I always felt the gameplay is what brought people to the stream however the community is the key to our success.
What are some of your current goals for your stream?
Quality. Whether it is better chat interaction, gameplay, sound, video, overlays, emotes etc. I’m always trying to improve the stream the best I can and will often have help from the community in doing so. It’s a bit outside my comfort zone to ask for help but when I do the community steps up to the challenge in a big way.
What is your favorite thing about PUBG?
My favorite thing about PUBG is it’s a great streaming game. There are wild amazing moments to share with the community and there are slow times in the round that allow for chat interaction. The whole round can be a roller coaster and I love the feeling of winning the round and sharing that with our community.
What do you enjoy most about streaming and how do you keep yourself motivated?
What I enjoy most about streaming is our community. We are very lucky to have each other. They have been behind me 100% from encouraging words to giving me the means to stream full-time for over a year!
What has been the biggest challenge you have faced during your streaming career?
My biggest challenge has been trying not to get burnt out while continuing to be consistent. My schedule has been 7 days a week for a long time now. I feel some days the quality of the stream suffers because of it. I do need to get better at taking some time away from the stream.
Who are some fellow streamers who inspire you?
There are many streamers that inspire me. Calindel and Smak are the two main communities I was a part of as I was creating the identity for my own channel. I was happy to see Twitch done in such a positive manner and I’m happy to call them both friends.
What does your daily schedule look like? How do you work to balance streaming with other responsibilities/relationships/jobs/etc?
My daily schedule looks much like this: Wake up, breakfast (kale shake), workout, shower, housework, lunch (chicken, salad, and sweet potatoes), stream, supper (turkey wrap), watch Netflix/Twitch and sleep.
I stream 7 days a week but will always take time off for family or friends when something comes up. I need to schedule a day off but have not gotten around to that yet.
How do you feel your community has impacted you/others?
Our community has had a big positive impact on each other. I see it every day in the relationships being formed. Our discord is always busy and it is amazing to see new channels in our community growing with us. This is what I always wanted from our community and I’m very excited to be a part of it.
What is your biggest piece of advice for someone new to streaming?
Enjoy it and keep your expectations in check. For me, I focused on the community first and that was all. Be excited for those that tune in to watch and never complain about the ones who are not. I decided to go for a slower organic approach without giveaways. I also decided only at 1000 follows I would put up a donation button. These are things that helped me grow as a caster along with my community.
If you could only play one video game for the next year, which would it be and why?
PUBG as it has been a natural transition from the 4129 hours I’ve spent playing ARMA 3 Battle Royale. The game has so much to offer and with custom games and mod support coming things will never be dull.
